Martin Luther King Jr. National Historic Site consists of a series of buildings, roughly in the same district that famous civil rights activist and the voice of an entire nation, Martin Luther King Jr. grew up in. The site consists of the boyhood home in which Martin Luther King was born and Ebenezer Church where he was baptized. Martin Luther King went on to create a legacy which would go on to become the foundation stone for the modern America.
Overall, the buildings on this historic site cover 35 acres of land including a museum that chronicles milestones in the American Civil Rights movement and a gift shop. Make sure to reach out to someone at the Visitor Center, for a brief orientation of the historic site and the facilities on the site before you stop by the home which became the cornerstone of a social change in America. You also get to enjoy the sweet fragrance of roses and a stunning fountain at the International World Peace Rose Garden and marvel at the sculpture at the Behold Monument which commemorates the principles that guided the life and works of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Make sure to stop by the historic Fire Station No. 6 built in 1894 and take a look at a 1927 American LaFrance fire engine at the museum. The historic Ebenezer Baptist Church should be next on your itinerary followed by the King Center, the last halt on the tour, which houses the tombs of Mr. & Mrs. King.
While at the Martin Luther King Jr. National Historic Site make sure to stop by the bookstore which features plenty of books, stamps and other items related to Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and the Civil Rights Movement.
